Go into the mountains and enjoy the view

Las Sierras de Tejeda y Almijara
Just behind Competa and ten minutes from Casa Leanda, this mighty rough pine forest is located between the provinces of Málaga and Granada. They form a natural boundary between both. The highest point is the 2068m high Maromapic. The Natural Park which is 40,600 hectares, is located south of Alhama de Granda and extends to La Axarquía., As the region is called here. The rocky slopes are covered with pine, sharp ridges, deep gorges and winding mountain streams are breathtaking landscapes where scattered wild goats graze. The villages of this legendary area were formerly a paradise for bush beetles, the so-called bandoleros. They still have their Moorish character and remained virtually innocent. Nature is beautiful and lends itself to hiking / mountain biking.

A top beach of half an hour from Casa Leanda
Just a few kilometers outside Nerja, along the old N-340 coastal road, lies the village of Maro, still within the municipalities of Nerja. Therefore, the beaches of Maro – the Maro beach and La Caleta de Maro – are also considered Nerja beaches. Spanish families, for example, often prefer the rest of the lesser-known neighboring Maro Bay, La Caleta de Maro. The Maro beach has a lot of fans and reason!

About the Maro Beach
The beach itself is a mix of pebbles and coarse sand of about 500m long and 20m wide. The picturesque bay is sandwiched between the cliffs, the surrounding farmland and the top of the remains of an old Moorish watchtower.

In 2013, this beach was like ‘best beach in Andalusia’ and voted ‘second best beach in the whole of Spain “(with La Granadella beach in Javea first), in a poll organized by the Spanish television channel Antena 3.
The location can hardly be idyllic. This bayy beach is adjacent to Los Acantilados de Maro – Cerro Gordo Natural Area, a coastal strip that is fortunately rigorously protected. Fishing is not allowed in this area, which has the full potential of marine life!

Snorkeling on the Maro beach
It is astonishing how many fishes can be seen here. The abundance and exceptionally clear water make it one of the best locations in Andalusia for snorkeling and diving.
